William went to sea and died of yellow fever in the West Indies.
Andrew made one voyage, but when William died his mother would not let him go to sea again. She was a wealthy lady and she set up Charles and Andrew in farms at Westbank and Adiston, East Lothian. They were about a mile apart and she lived with Charles and his family.

The inscription on a stone in Tulliallan Kirkyard would indicate that John Christie, born 1784, may not be the son of William Christie and Mary Ure.
Who was John Christie, born 1790, if he was not the John Christie who erected the stone?
Does anyone have a photo of the stone?
It appears that the stone was erected on the 27th of April 1827 when only two children had died.
Why did they not follow tradition and name a girl Mary. Why choose Margaret? Was William Christie married to a Margaret?
Alternatively, it could it be that the family on the stone is not our family.
