Isabella GREIG

Thomas COUTTS was one of the promoters of the Darian Scheme in Panama and lost all his money.  He must have been very relieved when his daughter, Agness, married Patrick Cunningham.
At the age of 10, along with two other boys, at the order of the Duke of Cumberland, he was whipped at every well in Montrose when they were caught drinking the health of Prince Charlie out of mussel shells in the harbour of Montrose.
He had 11 brothers and sisters.  One brother, Patrick (1669-1704), married Jean Dunlop in 1697.  They had a son, John July 1699-1751) who was Lord Provost of Edinburgh in 1742.
