Health Food
So you think you are eating a good healthy diet.
Your doctor recommends this, that and the other.
Remember, your doctor doesn't make any money if you don't come back later!!!

Vegetable oils are all the rage.  The most common is canola.  If the bottle doesn't specify what vegetable oil it has in it, you can guarantee it has at least some canola.  Margarine is mostly canola.
We are supposed to be using it instead of those nasty animal fats with their high cholesterol.  New Zealand health authorities have even considered putting a health warning on butter.  Have a read of this. The Health Effects Of  Canola Oil - None Dare Call It Rape By Don Harkins, Idaho Observer 5-99, Health & Canola Oil information By Beverly B. Ferguson (with comments by me.)
If you do a search on canola you will find heaps of sites extolling it's virtues, but they are nearly all sites that rely on it for their income.

Margarine is the in thing with New Zealand health foundations, heart, cancer etc.  Are they just trying to drum up some repeat business?
I see some margarines are now labelled as being low in trans-fats.  If you want to know what they are see THE MARGARINE HOAX  --Margarine, Fatty Acids and Your Health--

Low fat milk and yoghurt are also way up there with the health food experts.  Have you noticed that most fat people have low fat milk in their fridges??  It doesn't seem to do their waistlines much good, does it??

Eggs have been on the hit list for years. High cholesterol, heart disease etc.  Guess what.  The eggsperts are now backtracking and saying they are good for you.  Just as well I didn't give them up.  Mind you, I only eat fresh, free range, fertile eggs.

Microwaves are promoted as a healthy way of cooking.  Did you know that you shouldn't reheat breast milk in a microwave?  Apart from creating hot spots that can burn the baby, it destroys immune factors and destroys vitamins. I read recently that heating breast milk from 20 degrees C to 25 degrees C causes an immune system response in the baby, similar to a foreign invader.  An expert on (and proponent of) food irradiation, when asked about microwaves on TV recently, said that "All radiation alters food in ways that we do not fully understand."  And we cook a whole meal in the things.
